You can Succeed in Spite of Fear

The mind of man is made up of the intellect, will, and emotions. And when it comes to reaching your full potentials you need the stability of emotions more than anything else. Satan understands this clearly and that is why his greatest weapon is to attack your emotions with fear. And as long as your emotions are distorted with fear, it will constantly affect your sense of judgment.

The Bible says, ‘God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, of love and of a sound mind’ (2 Tim 1;7). Therefore, we have a choice to resist fear with the capacity of God in us. No matter how dangerous, imminent and uncertain a situation may look, with a fearless mind we can say what we want rather than what we feel. A wise man said to me recently saying, ‘Do the things you fear and the death of fear is certain’. We walk by faith and not by sight.

We cannot do much with ourselves if we keep responding in fear to every instance of danger or discomfort. Fear torments. It erodes our self-esteem. It exaggerates issues and distorts good sense of reasoning. But true faith in Christ generates uncommon capacity to dare the ‘undare-able’ and do the impossible.

People, companies and governments spend millions each year trying to buy confidence through feedbacks and peoples opinion. And in most cases what they receive as feedbacks are negative. People are easy to tell you that one thing you’re doing wrong while ignoring the many things you did right. They would tell you how things are and not how it could be.

We live in a fast changing world where almost nothing is certain. And in order to avoid the pains of loss and disappointments, we tend to become over- careful. But this would not be necessary if you build a strong confidence in God through knowledge.

Fear simply uses the weapon of uncertainty to unsettle its victims but God uses the infallibility of His thoughts to guarantee the believer’s future (Jeremiah 29:11). Therefore a sound and productive mind is bold, courageous and strong. Joshua was insecure but when he developed a fearless mentality, he took territories that even his mentor was not qualified to take.( Joshua 1;7).

Therefore to develop a sound mind, train your mind to be fearless. Remember, when you do the things you fear, and the death of fear is guaranteed.

LIVING IN THE WORLD OF CHAMPIONS

While speaking to a friend a few days ago, he recounted his conversation with a very successful man in the country. He asked this great man a question, ‘Sir, what would it take a young man like me to achieve what you have achieved in a shorter period of time’. He smiled and replied, ‘If you want to be an elephant, start eating what elephants are eating’. After pondering over this statement for a while, I found this to be a great truth which we all must learn: If you want to be a champion, start doing what champions are doing.

THINK LIKE A CHAMPION

One of the greatest hallmarks of a champion is the way he thinks. He is absolutely in control of his thought life. He understands that thoughts are the most powerful influences in a man’s life. Whatever we think we can or we can’t, would eventually determine what we achieve and accomplish. While majority pursue external factors to determine what they can do or can’t do, the champion looks inward. The beauty of this is that there are no barriers in the world of imagination. The champion decides on what he wants and then begins to create amazing and pleasurable pictures of it in his mind. He faces fear, uncertainty, anxiety, nervousness and other emotions like every other person but he never allows them to stop him from achieving whatever he wants to achieve. He consciously accepts responsibility and keeps working until he wins.

PLAN LIKE A CHAMPION

Energy, enthusiasm, determination and diligence are all products of the amazing mental pictures that the champion has created about his future. Although thinking helps him to answer the question ‘what do I want to achieve?’, he engages planning to answer the question ‘how?’ The true champion is a strategist. He doesn’t work without a goal in mind. And with his goals he establishes a plan that will help him reach the goal. He works tirelessly on his plan until his goals are achieved. For more on effective planning you may refer to the July edition of CityHub.

FOCUS LIKE A CHAMPION

There are two Jacks that never succeed in life: Jack of All Trades and Jack of No Trade. Focus on nothing and you’ll achieve nothing. Focus on everything and you’ll still achieve nothing. But if you focus on one thing, you are on your way to becoming a champion. Champions focus on one dream, one vision, and one cause at a time. Common sense says ‘don’t put all your eggs in one basket’ but focus says ‘put all your eggs in one basket and watch it with everything you’ve got’. The power of focus is one of the ultimate reasons for a champion’s success.

LEARN LIKE A CHAMPION

The champion’s food is knowledge and ideas. Their achievements are a direct function of the quality and quantity of information acquired through diligent study and search. They promptly apply new ideas they find to their circumstances. Champions never know enough to settle for status quo. They know that trends, circumstances and events are constantly changing. And changing with them are methods, approaches and strategies for achieving success in vital aspects of their lives. Therefore they humble themselves and submit to constant learning, corrections, improvements.

Haven’t you been around some folks who have this feeling of ‘I know everything and there is nothing new for me to learn’? Watch such people closely; any success they achieve is short-lived. Champions carry the mentality that they will never know enough. Even when they know quite a lot already, they still need to add what others know to what they know to stay relevant and maintain their top place. Therefore you must constantly unlearn old ways and habits, relearn new ones, apply them effectively to your present situation and keep improving on your current resourcefulness until your capacity level becomes formidable. That is how to remain a true champion.

LIVE LIKE A CHAMPION

There are two worlds you can choose to live in. The general world (where everybody lives and anything goes), and the champion’s world (where only champions live). The champion’s world is a world of possibilities, pleasure, productivity, rest, excitement, fun, fame, fulfilment and enormous wealth. But little do many realise that this good life was created by the champion himself from adventures, risks, rejections, mockery, losses and temporary pains faced in the general world. Everyone has his or her own fair share of challenges but what make champions soar is what they do with the challenges they face. For the average person, challenges are their excuse for failing. But for champions, the good life is too precious to be left at the mercy of conquerable challenges.

You have an amazing future before you. A future so big that if you could just dare to consistently think, plan, focus, learn and live like a champion, you’ll become unstoppable and success-bound. Start your journey into greatness today!

Get Ready To conquer

Most people tend to view challenges with contempt, thinking that they are the reason for their failures. But the fact is that challenges lack the emotions to recognize what impact they have on you and your circumstances-whether positive or negative. They don’t know who is tall or short, fat or thin, big or small, fair or dark. They don’t even know who is rich or poor.

But the good news is that every human being-man, woman, boy or girl - was designed to handle the biggest challenges by the unlimited potentials given to us by God. You are designed to develop endlessly in capacity until you are big enough to conquer any challenge you are faced with.

That means that the level of success we attain in life is directly linked to our commitment to increasing our capacity. Resilience, endurance, staying power, sensitivity and unrelenting faith don’t jump on people. They are consciously built over time by following a set of simple and easy-to-execute principles.

CHALLENGES ARE USEFUL

They give us the power to overcome any challenge we face at every point in our lives. Without challenges there can never be growth. Without challenges there will never be improvements. Without challenges we will all be lost in the global throng of never-do-wells. And what gives us true joy and fulfillment in life is our ability to change levels – from nothing to something, from failures to successes, from troubled marriages to blissful ones, from mediocrity to ingenuity, from rejections to mass acceptance, and from poverty to riches.

Therefore we must make up our mind to grow in our capacity for handling problems especially the ones we face in our everyday lives.

SUCCESS BEGINS IN YOUR MIND

Every excellent performance begins with a picture of success in your mind. No mental picture, no success.

Why do students fail?

This question can be answered in so many ways. Some say it is lack of preparation. Others say it is lack of focus and so on.

But if we really look at the root of all failures, we will find something in common. It is the inability to believe in one’s self. It is the inability to see success in the mind long before it becomes reality. No one ever stumbles into success. If any student find it difficult to study hard, or get overwhelmed by distractions… It is simply because he or she lacks the VISION of success in the mind.

That is why you must place a demand on success in your mind. People fail because they lack the inner explosion of HOPE that erupt the outer volcano of ENTHUSIASM and DETERMINATION. They never get motivated enough because they lack the SUCCESS MENTALITY needed for the success they desire.

Success begins in the mind. You can only believe what you have succeeded in visualizing with your mind. Let no one deceive you. The HOPE that comes from developing success in your mind is as important as the WORK you need to do to achieve the success. Doing the work required for success without establishing an inner hope is no easier than creating a smoke without igniting a fire.

GET A VISION OF SUCCESS

Therefore to succeed at the SSCE or UME you must start by developing pictures of success in your mind. Create a VISION for yourself. Can you see your desired result in your mind? Do you see your principal, parents and friends congratulating you for an outstanding result? Do you see yourself wearing the university matriculation gown not too long from now?

The process of doing this is called visualization.

Visualization process is important for three reasons:

1. IT EMPOWERS YOU. When you visualize success, you become empowered to succeed. Have you ever seen some students who study everyday as if tomorrow is the exam day? That is where the energy comes from. As long as they keep remembering and meditating on success they keep doing all in their capacity to ensure that the picture in their mind becomes a reality.

2. IT PRODUCES FOCUS IN YOU. Scientists have discovered through adequate research that those who visualize success regularly help their brain to focus and notice available resources in and around them that would help them achieve the success they see in their mind.

3. IT CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU. Visualization also conditions your mind and body to behave in a way that attracts the right people, the right resources and the right opportunities you need to achieve success.

Not everyone is a genius but everyone can achieve excellence. Not everyone may be termed super-intelligent but everyone can develop a success mentality. If anyone is performing excellently, it is not because they are the most endowed. It is because they are making the most of the resources available to them.

I don't care what your academic performance may have been before now, if you understand the power of visualization- which is developing a picture of success in your mind- then you can perform excellently in any subject that seems to be a big challenge.

LAY A FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS.

The summary of everything I have said so far can be wrapped up in the words of Norman Vincent Pearl: 'What the mind can conceive, the man can achieve'.

Every great success begins with a DESIRE that leads to a DECISION to prepare a study plan, which in turn creates enough DETERMINATION to succeed. A decision to study hard and consistently will not come without a visualization of success.
Therefore think success until you begin to speak it. And then keep speaking it until you begin to act it and eventually you find the whole world around you coming to your aid in actualizing the pictures you have developed in your mind to achieve.
